14-Banded "chevron" gneiss

Metamorphic rock with complex history. Rock contains quartz (clear), feldspar (white and pink), hornblende and biotite (black) minerals in bands. High pressures produced the initial bands of minerals and a second metamorphic event folded the bands. Metamorphosed in Canada at great depth, probably during multiple mountain-building episodes.
