1-GRANITE

Common igneous rock containing quartz (glassy), feldspar (pink), and the micas, muscovite (light), and biotite (black). Rock crystallized from molten magma several thousand feet beneath the surface, then was uplifted, and later was uncovered by stream erosion. Boulder was transported to Indiana by Pleistocene glaciers. (Compare with no. 6.)
